Sita Mata (Janaki), Janakpur Nepal & Ayodhya: A Sacred Connection
Goddess Sita, also known as Janaki, is the divine consort of Lord Rama and a central figure in the Hindu epic Ramayana. She is revered as the epitome of purity, devotion, and sacrifice. Her life journey connects Janakpur (Nepal), where she was born, to Ayodhya (India), where she spent her married life as the queen of Lord Rama.
Janakpur, located in Nepal, is one of the holiest places for Hindus. It is believed to be the ancient Mithila Kingdom, ruled by King Janaka, the father of Sita.
Janaki Mandir – The grand temple dedicated to Goddess Sita, built in 1911 by Queen Vrisha Bhanu of Tikamgarh, India. The temple’s architecture blends Hindu, Mughal, and Rajput styles. Ram Mandir – An ancient temple dedicated to Lord Rama. The Vivah Mandap – The sacred site where the divine marriage (Vivah) of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita took place. Dhanush Sagar & Ganga Sagar – Holy ponds associated with Sita’s Swayamvar and Lord Ram’s breaking of the divine bow (Shiv Dhanush). Jaleshwar Mahadev – A sacred Shiva temple located 16 km from Janakpur. The Legend of Sita’s Birth: According to Hindu mythology, King Janaka discovered baby Sita in a furrow while plowing the field as part of a yajna (sacred ritual). Since she was found in the earth (Bhumi), she is also called Bhumi Devi (Goddess of Earth).
Ayodhya, located in Uttar Pradesh, India, is the birthplace of Lord Rama and holds immense significance in Hinduism in Ayodhya:
Ram Janmabhoomi – The birthplace of Lord Rama, where the grand Shri Ram Temple is being constructed. Hanuman Garhi – A famous temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, protector of Ayodhya. Kanak Bhawan – A temple gifted to Sita by Queen Kaushalya after her marriage. Treta Ke Thakur Temple – Believed to be the place where Lord Ram performed the Ashwamedha Yagna.
Saryu River Ghat – A sacred riverbank where devotees take holy dips and perform Ram Aarti.
Sita, the Princess of Mithila, was married to Prince Ram of Ayodhya in a divine wedding. After marriage, Sita moved to Ayodhya and lived there as the queen.
Later, during exile (Vanvas), Sita accompanied Lord Rama to the forest.
After facing trials like Agni Pariksha and exile to Valmiki Ashram, she returned to Mother Earth (Bhumi Pravesh) at Sitamarhi, Bihar in India.
Seeking blessings for a happy married life. Experiencing the divine love and devotion of Lord Ram & Sita.Witnessing the cultural heritage of the Ramayana.
A pilgrimage covering Janakpur, Ayodhya, and Sitamarhi is considered highly auspicious for devotees of Lord Ram & Sita.
